After Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players discovered a frustrating bug hard capping the number of trainer battles at 300, a new patch aims to correct it. The newest game in the long-running franchise gave fans an expansive open world to explore either alone or with other players, though it wasn’t a flawless experience at launch. Performance issues related to Scarlet and Violet‘s framerate and other technical issues held the experience back even with some of more positive gameplay improvements.

However, Game Freak has continued to provide updates to the core experience, correcting a lot of the problems first seen at launch. In fact, with the launch of the first DLC expansion, Game Freak also released a new update which contained a wealth of quality-of-life improvements, adjustments, and features such as the ability to lock the mini map, and issuing new commands to buddy Pokemon like stop and wait. Game Freak also better optimized Pokemon boxes in Scarlet and Violet, drastically improving load times. However, one bug seems to have slipped through with The Teal Mask, though it seems to have been prioritized for an upcoming patch

Recently, players ran into a frustrating bug which hard caps non-story trainer battles at 300, meaning that beyond that point, the game would stop tracking and saving them. While this wasn’t an issue in the main game, The Teal Mask expansion adds a ton of additional battles including a post-campaign side mission tasking players with going around to defeat a new group called the Kitagami Ogre Clan. Players reported that they were unable to finish this side mission as the game stopped counting these battles, meaning the quest and associated rewards could never be claimed.

Thankfully, a fix appears to be enroute as Serebii.net has confirmed on X that a new patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been pushed forward for a first half of October launch to address this hard cap. Details are currently scarce and there’s always a chance that the patch may not make its intended launch window, but based on the information Game Freak is aware of the issue and prioritizing it for players.

While the fix sounds like it’ll fix the progression blocking problems some players are facing, it thankfully doesn’t interrupt the other things The Teal Mask has. As is expected with more Pokemon games these days, there are plenty of additional things to do once the campaign has been finished. In addition to the Ogre Clan, players can take part in a variety of unique activities and quests involving Bloodmoon Ursaluna, a new legendary trio, as well as popping balloons in a minigame called Ogre Oustin’.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
