Pokemon GO players are upset with Niantic after the price of Pokecoins in the in-game store increased. While the price change itself isn’t drastic, Pokemon GO fans are disappointed that Niantic didn’t attempt to communicate that the change was planned or in effect.

The popular pocket monster mobile game has been around for over seven years, and since then, the title has been through some changes. Players have seen new Pokemon Go features in-game, such as Raid Battles and the GO Battle League, along with other seasonal events for holidays like Halloween and New Year’s. One of the uses for Pokecoins is for Event Boxes, which rewards players with different items that can help them capture Pokemon. With players upset at the price increase, there may be a chance that they won’t want to purchase them anymore.

Reddit user and Pokemon Go player Excellent-Pumpkin-15 noticed that the price of Pokecoins increased. Players were outraged by the increase, and some are looking for other ways to earn Pokecoins in the app. Despite the change being an additional 69c for Excellent-Pumpkin-15, that’s almost double the original amount. The community is voicing their frustrations within the post, with some stating they’re done spending money on the mobile app. With the previous option being only 99c, players felt it was the best option to take when buying Pokecoins. Some users haven’t noticed price changes for Pokecoins in-game, causing suspicion that this increase is only regional.

Many players enjoy playing Pokemon Go, so some see this as a bold move on Niantic’s behalf. Prior to the price adjustment, there had been no announcement or statement from Niantic indicating that this change was coming in the future. Whether this was intended or not is only speculation from fans within the Reddit post. For a title like Pokemon GO that’s about being involved in a community and meeting new people, many players aren’t happy.

Giving players another reason to be upset, Niantic announced that Pokemon GO will become obsolete on older Android 7 devices. With the game still releasing new pieces of content and events, some players are disappointed in Niantic.

Epic Games has also recently implemented a price hike in Fortnite microtransactions due to things such as inflation. The difference between Epic Games and Niantic is that Epic communicated with its playerbase informing them that the change was taking place. Only time will tell if Niantic plans to address the Pokemon GO community on this change.
