Since the Alola region, a new feature called “Regional Forms” was introduced to the Pokemon world. This would take Pokemon from pre-existing generations and give them a different look and Typing depending on the region the Pokemon came from. For example, Vulpix has orange/brown fur and is a Fire-type, but the Vulpix from Alola are white-furred and have the Ice-typing instead. Pokemon Legends: Arceus gave a regional variant to Johto’s Sneasel, a Dark/Ice-type Pokemon.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Sneasel goes from a Dark/Ice-type to a Fighting/Poison-type. Interestingly, Hisuin Sneasel won’t evolve into Weavile. Instead, it will become Sneasler, a new Pokemon from the Hisui region. Fortunately for those that prefer Weavile, the original Sneasel is a part of the Hisui Pokedex.

Updated on May 3, 2023 by Renri Seong: Now that Scarlet/Violet has introduced the Paradox Pokemon, players may be returning to the world of Hisui in Legends: Arceus. This entry included Hisuian Pokemon, which were regional variants from the eighth generation of Pokemon. Despite this, some Pokemon made a return in their original variants. Sneasel is one example, who received a Hisuian variant and exclusive evolution, Sneasler. The Johto-version of Sneasel can still be caught in Legends: Arceus. Catching and evolving one is the only way to obtain Weavile in ancient Hisui. With Legends: Arceus sharing compatibility with Pokemon HOME, the following guide has been updated to reflect new information.

Where to get Original Sneasel

After calming the Noble Kleavor in the Obsidian Fieldlands, strange “domes’ will start randomly appearing around Hisui. These are referred to in-game as Space-time Distortions, and they are home to rare Pokemon and rare items. Space-time Distortions take some time to completely form, but players will receive a notification at the top of their screen when it’s fully appeared.

One of the Pokemon that appears in space-time distortions is the original Sneasel. However, it only spawns in the distortions that pop up in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Since there will be many other Pokemon, it may be hard to catch Sneasel. The best strategy is to circle around it with Wyrdeer and try to lure other Pokemon away. Then, battle Sneasel and catch it with a Great Ball or Ultra Ball.

Since Sneasel is a Pokemon with gender differences, trainers will need to catch the male and female version of both Sneasel forms if they want to complete all of Sneasel’s research tasks. Those that just want to get its Research Level to 10 can simply work on the other tasks and catch the more-common Hisuin Sneasel.

Weavile can also be caught in Space-time Distortions. Like its pre-evolved form, Sneasel, Weavile will only spawn in the Space-time distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Depending on what level players are at, Weavile can appear anywhere from levels 25-60, and levels 40-75.

Using Pokemon HOME to Get Sneasel & Weavile

Now that Legends: Arceus is compatible with Pokemon HOME, players can easily transfer Legends:Arceus-compatible Pokemon from most Swich titles such as Sword/Shield and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Sneasel appears on the Routes near Snowpoint City or in the Grand Underground in BDSP. In Sword/Shield, players can catch Sneasel in Max Raid Dens or in the Wild Area while it’s snowing.

To transfer a Pokemon to Legends: Arceus, do the following:

  1. Make sure the Sneasel from BDSP or SwSh is in the PC Box.
  2. Exit out of BDSP or SwSh and open Pokemon HOME.
  3. Change the User if necessary, and then select whichever game Sneasel is being transferred.
  4. Move Sneasel from the PC Box (on the right) to the Basic Box (on the left).
  5. Save and Exit.
  6. This time, select Legends: Arceus when prompted.
  7. Transfer the Sneasel in the Basic Box to one of the Pastures in Legends: Arceus.
  8. Save and exit.

Keep in mind that players will need to have unlocked the Pokedex/PC Boxes in BDSP/SwSh to be able to use Pokemon HOME. In Legends: Arceus, players will need to have unlocked the Pastures in Jubilife Village. Without these prerequisites, players won’t be able to transfer Pokemon from game to game.

Once Sneasel has been moved to a Pasture in HOME, go back into Legends: Arceus and visit the Pastures or the NPC by the base camps. Sneasel should be in whichever “box” that players placed it in. Also, keep in mind that Held Items do not transfer through HOME. This means players will need to buy the Razor Claw with Merit Points.
