Picnics are a feature in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet similar to Camping in Pokemon Sword & Shield. It’s also the only way to obtain Eggs (without trading), making it quite useful. They can also purchase different table cloths, water bottles, and cups. Doing this won’t increase the chances of Eggs appearing in the basket, but with the Teal Mask DLC, trainers may want to collect every tablecloth there is to find in Paldea.

In Scarlet/Violet‘s Teal Mask, players can find an NPC in the new Kitakami area who will make picnic chairs to match the aesthetic of the picnic tablecloths. While this may just seem like a pointless sidequest, showing him every single tablecloth will net players with a special ingredient that adds a Sparkling Power effect to sandwiches. Shiny Hunters will want to jump on this opportunity, as they’re essentially receiving valuable ingredients for free.

Where to Get Picnic Seats

Players can find two NPCs with a picnic table (and a Geodude) right near the Kitakami Hall travel point. Players will have to go to Kitakami Hall to find the second signpost for the Teal Mask storyline. Follow the eastern path of Mossui Town, through Reveler’s Road and up the hill to the entrance of Kitakami Hall. Refer to the orange flag/destination marker on the above image for the exact location.

Speak to the man in the gray shirt with the yellow textbox that says “I make chairs…” Even if trainers haven’t bought any picnic tablecloths, they will at least have the Naranja/Uva Academy tablecloth. Thus, they will get the Academy Seats upon speaking to him. He’ll want to see all the designs that Paldea has to offer, so fly back to Paldea and visit the Picnic-Knacks stores.

Where to Buy Tablecloths

As mentioned, tablecloths can be purchased at a store called Picnic-Knacks. There are three Picnic-Knacks in Paldea, and they’re all located in the major cities:

  • Mesagoza
  • Levincia
  • Cascarrafa

Here are the tablecloths that trainers can get from each Picnic-Knacks store:

Players will want to fill up their wallet if they intend to buy all of them. Money can be farmed by selling Treasure or, if they haven’t completed it yet, doing the Billy and O’Nare side quest in Kitakami. Each time players find the Glitterati duo, they’ll receive bulks of rare treasure that sell for quite a lot. Another way to get money is to have a Pokemon hold the Amulet Coin and use it in battle. The Amulet Coin doubles prize money.

How to Get the B&W Grass Tablecloth (How to Beat the Olive Roll Challenge)

There’s one tablecloth that can’t be bought from Picnic-Knacks, and players are going to need it if they want every picnic chair in Scarlet/Violet. It’s the B&W Grass Tablecloth, and players can only get it by completing the Olive Roll Gym Challenge in Cortondo. The catch is they need to complete the Olive Roll under 2:30:00.

To “retake” the Gym Challenge after defeating Katy, return to the field where the Olive Roll took place, and speak to the NPC there. Players can now try a new course for the Olive Roll challenge. Depending on how long it takes for them to reach the goal, they will receive different types of rewards.

Olive Roll Challenge Walkthrough/Tips

Unfortunately, the Olive Roll challenge can be tricky this time around. Players can either push it all around the arena, or they can take a shortcut by nudging the olive ball through a break in the fence near the first ramp. Since players need to complete this under 2:30:00 to get the tablecloth, they will have to take the shortcut.

The olive ball is extremely sensitive, and simply walking into it will send it bouncing around. If players choose to ride Koraidon/Miraidon and kick it from atop their Pokemon, they risk the ball being flung in the opposite direction. The best way to complete this challenge is to walk slowly into the ball (while on Koraidon/Miraidon) and bump into it. This will push the olive ball instead of sending it flying.

Once players get the olive past the break in the fence, they will have to push it forward, then to the right to a ramp. At the angle they’re approaching, trainers are going to need to use Koraidon/Miraidon and push the olive against the side of the ramp to get it over. Walk slowly into it, and the ball should go over the ramp’s side without too much of an issue.

Players will want to avoid sprinting into it, as doing so will send the olive ball right into the out-of-bounds area, forcing players to start all the way back at the beginning (the timer does not reset).

When the olive is on the ramp, jump onto it, then very carefully push it with Koraidon/Miraidon so it goes up the ramp. Another way to do this is to walk into it, but be careful as too much force can knock it off the ramp or, even worse, send it over the fence back to a preceeding area.

The olive ball can get “stuck on the ramp where it will literally clip through the surface. If this happens, players will need to start over. Press the Y-button to quit the challenge.

Guide the ball to the final ramp leading to the basket. Fortunately, it’s easier to get this one up the ramp than the last one, so nudge it up with or without Koraidon/Miraidon. Right before the basket, do NOT ram into the olive ball. This will push it over the basket, and players will need to guide it up the ramp again. Tap against it to gently nudge it into the goalpost.

If done successfully, players will receive various sandwich ingredients and the B&W Grass Tablecloth as a reward. If they don’t receive the tablecloth, then that means they didn’t reach the goal under 2:30:00.

Picnic Chairs Completion Reward (Herba Mystica)

Turn in/show all the picnic tablecloths to the Chair Maker NPC in Kitakami to get matching picnic chairs. If players have all of them (including the B&W Grass Tablecloth), they will receive x2 of each Herba Mystica. That’s 10 free Herba Mystica. Keep in mind that Herba Mystica is only obtainable through 5/6-star Tera Raids, which are locked to the postgame of Scarlet/Violet. Thus, it’s not a bad reward for simply buying accessories and replaying the Cortondo Gym Challenge.

Even better: This Herba Mystica Set can be received before players complete the main story. The picnic chairs can be a lot of work to get, but free Herba Mystica is something that should never be turned down. Using x2 Herba Mystica in sandwiches will give the Level 3 Sparkling Power meal power. Depending on the other ingredients, the other two meal effects can be Encounter Power, Title Power, etc. If players are using Herba Mystica for Shiny Hunting, they will want to get Level 3 Sparkling Power and Level 3 Encounter Power: [Type of Pokemon].

As for the picnic chairs, these can be changed the same way players can change the tablecloth, water bottle, cup, and ball. Go up to the picnic table and tap A-button. Then, select Redecorate and choose Pinic chairs.
