Pokemon‘s first-ever gym leader has been a main character of the anime since the original series and has been a very loyal companion to Ash Ketchum.

But as the gym leader and rock-type specialist of Pewter City, he has a fairly strong team, but just like every main character in the anime, he doesn’t evolve his Pokemon. This obviously hinders his team, Brock could have a powerhouse of a squad under his care. Brock has only captured 11 Pokemon during his time in the series, so it is only Comfey that misses out on this list.

10Sudowoodo

Brock's Sudowoodo In The Pokemon Anime

Brock did the right thing and evolved his Bonsly into the rock (not grass) type Sudowoodo, giving him some extra power for his Pewter City gym.

The imitation Pokemon has been a useful battler for Brock, using Mimic, Feint Attack and Low Kick for a wide range of moves with some great coverage. Despite this, Sudowoodo isn’t as strong as some of the other Pokemon on this list and since it is already evolved and cannot mega-evolve or even Gigantamax it is one of Brock’s weaker ‘mons.

9Ludicolo

Ludicolo In The Pokemon Anime

The fun-loving and dancing pineapple duck is one of the fan favorites of Brock’s Pokemon, Ludicolo is fully evolved after spending many episodes as a Lotad and Lombre.

After the Ruby & Sapphire series, Brock left Ludicolo in Pewter City to look after his younger siblings, so it has not been tested in battle much. In Pokemon Journeys: The Series it was revealed that Ludicolo has rejoined his team and he was proven to be a decent battler against Team Rocket.

8Toxicroak

Toxicroak In The Pokemon Anime

Brock’s Croagunk became somewhat of his main Pokemon, especially through the Diamond & Pearl series, a running joke would be that it would appear from its Pokeball and Poison Jab Brock when he was pursuing his latest female conquest.

But there is definitely an untapped potential in Croagunk and that is his evolved form of Toxicroak. Toxicroak is a great poison/fighting type Pokemon which Brock could have certainly used. Toxicroak is seen as an evil Pokemon of Team Plasma, however so perhaps they wanted to stray away from this look in the anime.

7Crobat

Brock's Crobat In The Pokemon Anime

The first Pokemon that Brock was seen capturing in the anime was a Zubat, and it spent 159 episodes in its first form. It almost fell into the category of main Pokemon that go unevolved but in Johto, it evolved into a Golbat and then to Crobat.

Since its evolution, it hasn’t been used much, staying behind during Brock’s travels to Hoenn and then only being seen twice since then. It is a crying shame as Crobat is one of the best flying types in the game with his 130-speed and diverse moveset.

6Forretress

Forretress In The Pokemon Anime

It is a big relief that Brock decided to evolve Pineco into Forretress as not only does it help with some type coverage it also adds a defensive monster to his ranks with a staggering 140 defense.

With Spikes, Rapid Spin and Explosion, Forretress can deal some real damage, unlike some of his Pokemon, it is fully evolved and makes a valued member of his squad. Whether he can use it in Pewter Gym is a different problem.

5Ninetales

Ninetales In The Pokemon Anime

Brock, when he had goals of being a Pokemon breeder for some reason, took care of a Vulpix that was owned by a trainer called Suzie. Brock took care of this fire-type for most of the original series, giving it back to Suzie in Johto.

But what if Brock decided to keep the Vulpix he had bonded with and evolved it into a Ninetales, he would have some much-needed firepower in his team, helping to deal with the grass types that counter his many rock types.

4Golem

Golem In The Pokemon Anime

Geodude has been with Brock from the very beginning so this evolution is a long-time coming, Golem will be one of the best Pokemon in Brock’s team smashing through fellow rock types with a powerful Earthquake or even a Focus Punch.

The first Pokemon that gamers saw from a gym leader needed some love many years on and this should have come through an evolution into Graveler and then to Golem. If Brock wants to be a top gym leader, he needs to have the best, which should come through this generation 1 final form.

3Blissey

Brock's Blissey In The Pokemon Anime

Brock’s Blissey was his aide when he became a Pokemon doctor. As fans of the franchise know Chansey and Blissey are the healing Pokemon who are the aide of the medical staff of the Pokemon World, such as Nurse Joy.

But Brock got his Happiney before he ever decided to retrain, and it remained as such up until the end of his travels in Sinnoh when it evolved into a Chansey. It was revealed in Sun & Moon that it evolved into its final form, a Blissey. Although it is mainly used outside of battle, Blissey is a solid Pokemon with its high defense and HP, it is a monster and Brock has a powerful wall if he ever needs to use it.

2Swampert

Swampert In The Pokemon Anime

In what was a first for the series Brock got himself a starter Pokemon through a Mudkip, the first time that Ash did not get all three starters in the anime. It spent 123 episodes as a Mudkip before evolving into a Marshtomp, but it stopped there.

The Hoenn starters are all loved by fans but Swampert has a particular fondness, Swampert has a perfect design and is great in battle with his water/ground typing. Brock also has missed having another mega evolution on his team by keeping it as a Marshtomp. Swampert would be one of Brock’s star team members.
